Staying at the Magnolia Hotel in Denver was the perfect way to transition from hiking to city life on our road trip home from Utah to Texas. I’m a firm believer that when you go on vacation, the places that you stay at should be part of the experience and vibe of the trip. Magnolia Denver is one of those darling, historic places that adds so much to the trip.
About the Magnolia Hotel Denver
Located in Downtown Denver, the Magnolia Hotel Denver is in the heart of the city. It’s walking distance from Coors Field, Mile High Stadium and the Pepsi Center. Harry’s in the lobby is a cozy restaurant to relax at.
Built in 1910, the First National Bank building was hailed as Denver’s first skyscraper and located on what was known as the “wall street of the west”. In 1994, a local family acquired the building and thoughtfully redesigned it into the Magnolia Hotel. The hotel is still locally owned by the family today. You can experience the warmth of the historic details seamlessly blended with modern essence in details like the carved external façade and antique elevators.
The Magnolia Hotel Denver is part of a collection of hotels with sister properties in Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Omaha. This particular location is part of the Marriot family, so I was quite excited to get Bonvoy points with my stay as well.
Our Stay at Magnolia Hotel Denver
When we arrived in Denver, we had been hiking in Zion and Moab and were sooo excited for some consistent air conditioning and water pressure. The team put us up in a darling suite on the third floor with a dining table and living area. They treated us to a bottle of wine and we took some seriously long showers. Everything was stylish and modern. We picked up dinner from Appaloosa Grill and relaxed after a long day of hiking in Arches National Park and driving for several hours. I appreciated being able to relax in the room and social distance for dinner.
The next morning we walked to The Bindery across the river for brunch. Everything about our visit was spectacular. The award-winning chef, Linda Hampsten Fox, focuses on creative, culinary dishes with an emphasis on using local ingredients. We loved our food so much, we bought the Bindery cookbook and have been making recipes at home in Houston.

COVID Considerations for Denver
While we didn’t spend much time in Denver on our trip, we felt very safe and comfortable in the Magnolia Hotel Denver. As they’re part of the Marriott hotel family, the staff were up to date on best practices for maintaining social distancing and keeping everything clean. The front desk had added plexi-glass and space for clean pens and used room keys. Only one party could enter the elevator at a time.
I enjoyed my time at the Magnolia Hotel Denver, and I can’t wait to visit the other Magnolia Hotel properties. Staying in a boutique hotels AND getting Marriott Points? Sign me up!
