My Houston townhouse kitchen renovation is complete! Earlier this month, I embarked on my first major upgrade to my home. I wanted to modernize my kitchen by removing the chocolate brown countertop and backsplash and stainless steel sink. I wanted to add in extra storage, a wine fridge, and cookbook shelf. Happy to say all those goals were realized and my kitchen is sparkling new and so exciting!

During Construction
I contracted Home Remedy Houston to do my Houston townhouse kitchen renovation. I wouldn’t share the name of my contractor unless I was pleased with their work…and I am! The whole project took 7 days of work. Below is the schedule that the team more or less followed (not including weekends).
- Day 1: Demo countertops and backsplash
- Day 2: Install cabinets
- Day 3: Install sink
- Day 4: Paint cabinets
- Day 5: Install countertop
- Day 6: Install backsplash and hook up stove and sink
- Day 7: Touchup paint, grout, and clean
I made a point to manage this project like I would one at work. Each morning I confirmed with the project manager when they’d be showing up and what they would be doing for the day. I would give them feedback every afternoon with things that I wanted to make sure they would get done. Overall, very professional and finished everything on scheduled and on budget.
During the kitchen renovation, my townhouse was a total mess for about 2 weeks. Home Remedy Houston hung up plastic tarps to protect my house from some of the dust and smell and put paper on the floor to protect my hardwood. Yet by the end of it everything was covered in a fine layer of dust from the shaping of the cabinets and countertop. We had to do some major deep cleaning to get the dust out of everything. My Christmas tree is probably a lost cause though. No idea how to clean that!
After Pictures
I’m super pleased with how everything turned out for my Houston townhouse kitchen renovation. The space is so much brighter and more functional.
In the most adulting statement ever: I’ve been super enjoying dishes in my new white farmhouse sink. It’s much more space than my previous stainless steel one. The metal rack at the bottom keeps the dishes clean as I’m washing them. I also love that I have a soap dispenser installed into the countertop. It matches my American Standard Xavier Facuet and neatens up the countertop–woot woot less clutter! Because I love the “mist” setting, I kept my faucet from before because. I’ve been reading articles about how to be more sustainable, and one way to do that is by reducing the water you use when you do dishes. If you’re not looking to reduce your faucet, Altered makes an add-on that you can install into your faucet to manage waterflow.
The main goal of my kitchen renovation was to expand my island, which I achieved with the addition of 3 more feet of counterspace. The additional space has been a super game changer for Kyle and I who both love to cook a lot!
Under the counter, we have a built in bookcase for our cookbooks (and Kyle’s coffee supplies), a big cabinet for all my entertaining supplies that used to be hidden waaaay above the fridge, and a new wine fridge!
