I don’t know about you, but I love a good before and after transformation for any home upgrade!! Before I do a reveal of what my final bathroom updates look like, I wanted to share the bathroom before pictures from my townhouse with you before I started my renovation.
Bathroom Renovation: Before Pictures
The original design of my primary bathroom in my Houston townhouse had some pretty standard builder grade materials. The shower had floor to ceiling tile that matched the rest of the bathroom floor. It was about 40 inches long (smaller than standard size) with silver framed glass with rubber lining that was starting to deteriorate with age. The shower head I had replaced to a larger pseudo-shower head shortly after moving in, but the height was a bit short for Kyle who stands at 6 ft.
A massive unframed mirror was glued to the wall across the vanity with some discoloration in the corners. The vanity had a mixed brownstone top with round sinks and silver hardware everywhere. Much of the bathroom space was taken up by a standard size jet tub.
The ultimate goal of the renovation is to upgrade the space with more modern (and colorful!) elements and make the space more function with added storage and a bigger shower.

My Contractor & Designers
One of the most frequent questions I get about my home design process is who my contractor is. Last year, I redid my kitchen and worked with Home Remedy Houston. When looking for Houston contractors I got quotes for both spaces. With the bathroom a bit more complex (requiring 10 days of work vs. 7), I did the kitchen first as a “trial run.” They passed! And I followed up with the team again in this spring to work on my bathroom.
I will say, if you’re considering a renovation, definitely get multiple quotes! I talked to 6 contractors and the quotes ranged from $9,000 to $18,000 from 10 to 21 days of work. I definitely feel like if you’re going to invest thousands of dollars into something, it’s worth the upfront due diligence to make sure you’re getting a fair price. I also learned a lot about my space as different contractors noticed different things. I ultimately compiled all that knowledge and intel into my final renovation plan.

I also think a big difference in the bathroom renovation was working with an interior design firm, Tre Designs. The bathroom has a lot more fixtures, design work and detailed elements that I needed to consider for the renovation. Courtney and Sarah of Tre Designs helped me think through innovative ways to bring together the tile and light fixtures I had picked out with other elements of the room like hardware, towel bars, floating shelves and paint colors.
